14 0f 30. Leaving School at 14 years old.

14 of 30.  Leaving School at 14 years old.

In the 1930’s children left school
at the age of 14, not just in the
countryside, but in the towns too.
Mums needed them to go to work,
to supplement the family income.

Times were hard, no National
Health Service. No Benefits.
The families who lost everything
because their father died, they could
appeal to the Parish Council, but
they were judgemental and sparing
In handing our “Poor Relief”.
You can imagine, how hard people
had it, leading to shorter lives.
